The Right Question
“Leaders do not need answers. Leaders must have the right questions.”
Church historian Justo L. González suggests we adopt a more realistic view of history focusing more on what we can learn than on naming “good guys and bad guys.” Instead of merely asking who was right, attention is given to questions such as:
* What were the forces — social, economic, religious — at play in a given conflict and how did they help determine the outcome?
* How do we discern God’s will in such a history without heroes or saints?
* How do we discern that will in our own days, when a similar history is unfolding?
