South Central Jurisdiction Survey
Regarding Criteria for Establishing Episcopal Areas

Message from the South Central College of Bishops

By action of the 2008 General Conference, the South Central Jurisdiction is one of the jurisdictions that will have one fewer bishop effective in 2012. The church has acted and it is the responsibility of the South Central College of Bishops to carry out the wishes of the church in the most sensitive and missional way possible.

But we cannot do this alone. We need your help. One way you can help is by completing this online survey. Below are some foundational principles we will be following in our work. But these principles alone do not settle the shape of episcopal areas. There are other important considerations that have been shared with us. We need your help to prioritize them.

Thank you for your participation.

Foundational Principles Guiding The College of Bishops

  • Mission. Everything we do is shaped by our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
  • A More Vital, Faithful, and Fruitful United Methodist Witness. We envision an outcome of our work being a stronger United Methodist presence and witness.
  • Listening to God. Prayer and discernment must undergird and shape all of our deliberations.
  • Listening to Everyone Affected. One way we will listen to God is by listening to one another across the jurisdiction to hear the wisdom God has given each of us on this matter.
