Is "Location" Disappearing in the United Methodist Church?

Terms such as "Honorable Location" and "Administrative Location" are fairly common for United Methodist clergy.  However, some recent research shows that the practice of "location" is being used less and less among annual conferences.  In 1970, for example, 264 clergy were given involuntary or voluntary location.  By 2003 the number has dropped to 30.  In 2004 the number rose to 48.
