Events: Reach New Disciples
To reach new disciples, it used to be enough for our churches simply to reach out to their neighbors. But today churches need to connect with their neighbors through understanding, engagement, and service.
To help meet this challenge, the Lewis Center has developed the Reach New Disciples program for laity and clergy. The next Reach New Disciples Event will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012.
The first conference, Connect with Your Neighbors, was held November 5, 2011. The conference featured two presentations: “Discovering the People God has Given Us,” by Dr. Lovett H. Weems, Jr., and “The Theology of Welcome” by Dr. Amy Oden, Dean of Wesley Theological Seminary. In addition, a series of workshops addressed how congregations can reach new disciples by developing ministries that target community needs, by making better use of social media and Web sites, and by learning new ways to assess and understand the community outside the church doors.
A Reach New Disciples DVD/CD resource has also been developed. Learn more.
