Leadership from the Heart: Learning to Lead With Love and Skill
by Carol Cartmill and Yvonne Gentile
(Abingdon, 2004)

In a workshop recently, clergy and lay participants engaged several issues facing their churches today and in the near future, and they then concluded that identifying and training sufficient lay leadership in their congregations was their most pressing need. Surveys of larger groups of clergy and laity confirm the conclusions of that one workshop group.

A new resource is available for use in congregations as a basic training tool for congregational leaders. Leadership from the Heart: Learning to Lead with Love and Skill by Carol Cartmill and Yvonne Gentile (Abingdon, 2004) is a ten-week study using two-hour sessions. This study was developed at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection (COR) in Leawood, Kansas.

Biblical and spiritual foundations for leadership are combined with practical ways to implement leadership in a congregation. The cost of the Leader Kit (including a DVD with ten video segments) is $39, and the Participant Workbook costs $10.

If you would like to see the outline of the sessions as they are taught at COR, you may go to http://www.cor.org/UpWord_Bound.759.0.html.
