Best Practices for Rental Income from Church Facilities
Increasingly congregations derive funds for their ministries through income from the use of their facilities. This workshop will help participants assess the theological and practical questions about whether this source of income should be pursued and, if it is, what the best practices are to enhance such income in ways consistent with the church's mission.
Establishing an Endowment through Planned Giving
This workshop will feature best practices for developing endowed funds to support the mission of the congregation. It will help churches without an endowment decide if an endowment makes sense for them. It will help churches with an endowment to assess their endowment practices. And a major focus will be on helping churches build an endowment through bequests and planned giving, the major source for endowed giving.
Expanding Ways of Giving Beyond Checks
Every year since the 1990s, a smaller percentage of financial transactions use checks. Yet most churches still receive over 90% of their giving through checks. This workshop will help participants assess the pros and cons of supplemental methods of giving that churches are using effectively to enhance giving which are sensitive to the changing ways their members handle personal finances.
Monitoring Giving Throughout the Year More Realistically
Every church has its own giving profile that changes very little from one year to the next. This workshop will give participants a way of determining such giving patterns and then a simple method to use these patterns to monitor giving throughout the year. If your church divides its budget by 52 weeks in order to report “needed each week,” this workshop is for you.
Pastoral Conversations about Money
Clergy often are unsure about how to approach the subject of money with persons who have significant financial resources. This workshop provides guidance to clergy based on what persons of means have shared about experiences with their pastors
Preparing a Spiritual Foundation for Giving
This workshop will discuss ways of spiritual growth that help move members to faithful disciples for whom generosity is an integral component of their response to God’s love and grace.
Ways to Increase Annual Commitments from Members
This workshop will present a series of principles and best practices that can improve the outcome of your annual commitment campaign regardless of campaign system or approach used in your church.
